The Development Road gets discussed as a national corridor, but companies need to understand city-level implications. How should we think about Basra, Baghdad, Mosul, and Erbil if transport connectivity improves?

Basra is the port/energy anchor. Baghdad is the political and consumption center. Mosul could become more relevant if northern logistics improve. Erbil remains important for international business comfort and Kurdistan access.
The corridor only becomes investable for private operators when timelines, governance, customs, security, and land acquisition are clearer. But as a concept, it could change Iraq’s position in regional logistics.
Legal and contracting frameworks will determine how much private participation is realistic. Investors will ask about dispute resolution, currency convertibility, payment risk, and sovereign support.
This is a good example of why CityCalc needs 'project pipeline confidence' and 'implementation risk' fields, not just project names.
